The Last of Us Part II: All Journal Entry Locations

The Last of Us Part II has a lot of collectibles (286, in fact). With over 100 artifacts, nearly 50 collectible cards, and over 30 coins, by far the easiest collectibles to tackle first are journal entries. There are only 20 log entries in The Last of Us Part II, including 18 in the first half. Journal entries contribute to the Archivist Gold Trophy, where you will need to collect every journal entry and artifact in the game. There are many more artifacts, but if you miss a single journal entry, the trophy will not explode. . We’ve done the hard work for you, however, finding all of the journal entry locations in The Last of Us Part II.

While we won’t go into the plot details in full detail, we’ll be highlighting landmarks and benchmarks throughout this guide. Let this serve as a spoiler warning.

Chapter 4: Patrol

Journal # 1

Shortly after the chapter begins, Ellie and Dina will dismantle their horses inside an abandoned building. After a few dialogues, you will climb a staircase and exit to a balcony. There’s a mini-cutscene here that’s part of the main story path. After the end, facing this same balcony, press Triangle to jot down the journal entry.

Much later in the chapter, Ellie will pick up a Firefly pendant hanging on the wall next to a door. This artifact is a must-see and Dina and Ellie will discuss it. After that, head to the next room and immediately turn right. There, on a shelf, you will see a giraffe toy. Inspect it for this log entry.

Chapter 7: Packing your bags

Once inside Joel’s house, make your way to the downstairs kitchen. Interact with the mug next to the sink for this journal entry.

This entry is part of history, so it is a must. Still in Joël’s house, go upstairs and enter his room. On the bed, inspect the red box for this entry.

Chapter 8: The Door

From the beginning of the chapter, continue on the main story path through the woods and onto an overgrown freeway (there is a Seattle exit sign at the end of the freeway). Once you get to the end you will come to an open area with a security tower and, to your right, a gate with spray painted ‘WLF intruders on sight’ painted on the front. Interact with the graffiti in this diary entry.

Chapter 9: Downtown

Chapter 9 is a large section of the open world where you can explore downtown Seattle. For the first diary entry, head to the corner of 5th Avenue and Madison Street. There you will find a security checkpoint. Climb the ladder to the top of the checkpoint and run to the second watchtower. Inside the drawer you’ll find an artifact and, after picking it up, a journal entry prompt when you look out the front window of the tower.

As part of the main story route, you will need to go to the synagogue located between Mario Street and Colombia Street (the “dome,” as Ellie and Dina first call it). There are a few puzzles to solve inside, but eventually you’ll use a rope to swing on a balcony. On the destination balcony, head right into the rabbi’s office. There’s an artifact on her desk, and once you pick it up, Ellie will automatically jot down this diary entry.

Chapter 13: The Tunnels

Towards the middle of the chapter, you will have to eliminate your first two Shamblers (the Infected with the hunched back). Be careful when shooting them down, because when defeated, the Shamblers will fall to the ground and explode in a cloud of poison gas. Once the gas is clear, interact with a Shambler for this log entry.

Chapter 15: Birthday Present

At the start of the chapter, you will see a large T-Rex statue outside the museum. Interact with the nameplate of this log entry.

Inside the museum, continue through the exhibition until you reach the exhibition space on the upper floor. Continue straight through the exhibit until you reach two semicircular benches facing each other. Interact with the correct bench for this journal entry.

Chapter 16: Hillcrest

From the beginning of the chapter, continue straight through Hillcrest until you have to climb over a wrecked truck (part of the main story path). On the other side, you will see a Ruston Cafe right in front of you. To the left is a “rules must be followed” banner with “fuck the WLF” sprayed on the front. Interact with him for this diary entry.

Chapter 17: Finding Channels

At the start of the chapter, you’ll play as Ellie in a flashback scene with Tommy. Immediately when you’re in control, turn right and head to the ledge where you can see a mountain in the distance. As you get closer, a prompt will appear. Use it and Ellie will write down this diary entry.

Chapter 18: The Seraphites

Near the beginning of the chapter, you will come across the conference center. Go inside, and to the left, you’ll see blood smears spelling out “feel her love.” Interact with this view for the log entry.

This entry is must-have, but just so you can tick it off the list, here’s how you’ll know it happened. Later in the chapter, there’s a mini-cinema where Ellie will show the hospital in the distance. After that, it will automatically mark a new entry.

Later in the chapter, once you get out of the sewers, you’ll come to a grassy area where the scars will attack you. Once you’ve dealt with them, continue out of the grassy area until you reach a road. Head left to a bus stop and interact with the body for this diary entry.

Chapter 20: Road to the Aquarium

A little later in the chapter, Jesse and Ellie will enter an overgrown bookstore. Make your way downstairs, partially submerged in the water, and make your way to the children’s books section. In front of a Alice in Wonderland mural, there are two mushroom trees. Interact with the one on the left for this log entry.

Chapter 21: The Flooded City

At the start of the chapter, you will have to leave your boat to open a chain door. Get out into the water, but before you open the door, head to the left. Go up the stairs and enter the upper room. Head to the window and you will see the log entry prompt appear.

Chapter 22: Infiltration

You will reach a point in the chapter where Ellie falls from an air duct and is attacked by a dog. Once the encounter is over, continue straight through the door in front of you, then turn left and go through the next door. Immediately turn left and go into the next room to find a makeshift kitchen. Across the room, interact with the blue duffel bag for this journal entry.

Chapter 43: Pushing Inland

Towards the end of the chapter, you will crawl under a stone wall and reach a road overlooking a town (there is a police car on the side of the road). Head to the lookout and a L3 The button prompt will appear. Tap on it and Ellie will create a new diary entry.

Chapter 44: The Beach Resort

At the start of the chapter, you will have to face a group of Rattlers. Once you’ve dealt with them, continue straight ahead, paralleling a series of train tracks. Eventually you will spot a green van parked on the railroad tracks with the Rattlers symbol on it. Interact with him for the latest journal entry in The Last of Us Part II. However, you will not yet unlock the Archivist Trophy; there are two more artifacts in the game.
